Lets rocket and make like Miles by creating your own super stellar rocket pack to discover all the wonders of the universe!
This activity is a great way to repurpose those empty soda bottles and get crafty in the garden. There’s shiny foil, paper flames, and much more to play with — everything a stellar mechanic needs to make a blastastic rocket pack!
- Two large, empty plastic bottles (labels removed)
- Tin foil
- Sheet of card
- Sticky tape
- Printed patterns
- Yellow card
Coat the two plastic bottles in glue.
Get your kids involved by having them help you place pieces of foil over both bottles to cover them and make them look like real metal rocket blasters!
Using the card, cut two strips for the back pack straps. Coat with glue, then cover them in tin foil. Use the sticky tape to attach one strap at the top and bottom of each bottle.
Cut two more strips from the card and help your kid decorate them with paints or other patterns of their choice.
Wrap each strap around the bottles, one at the top, the other at the bottom to hold the bottles together. Secure with sticky tape.
Use the yellow and white card to create flame shapes and attach to the base of each bottle with sticky tape.
Gently have your kid slip on the rocket pack and see how fast they can race with it on. You could even make more than one and have a rocket pack race!
