Print the pattern below and follow the instructions to make a hot water bottle cover inspired by one of our favourite characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
- 1 metre black fleece
- 1 metre white fleece
- Fleece or felt pieces in light grey, orange and burgundy
- White or light grey thread
- Sewing machine
- Hot water bottle
Fold and pin the bottom edge (flat edge) of the front head under 1/4" to the wrong side. Sew along the edge, removing pins as you sew to create a finished edge. Fold and pin the top edge of the front body under 1/4" to the wrong side. Sew along the edge, removing pins as you sew to create a finished edge. This will later become the opening for the hot water bottle to be inserted.
Assemble the detail pieces onto the front head and front body pieces according to the layout picture in the pattern provided. Pin pieces in place.
Sew detail pieces onto the front head and front body using white or light grey thread.
Place front head and front body piece on top of back body piece (right sides together) and pin in place.
Sew around all edges with 1/4” seam allowance. Add extra re-enforcing stitches where the front head and the front body pieces meet, by doing 2-3 back and forth stitches over the meeting point. Clip the bottom corners and clip into the top head curve, being careful to avoid cutting into stitches.
This was made for a standard hot water bottle approx. 7.5" x 13.5" when laid flat. You may need to slightly adjust the pattern to fit your hot water bottle.
