Let someone special know just how much they’re loved and appreciated this Mother’s Day by making these personalised Disney Princess scented candles.
This recipe will make Ariel candles but to make other Disney Princesses, just swap the coconut essential oils and blue and green crayons for the following:
• To make Belle use rose scent and yellow crayons
• To make Cinderella use vanilla and lemon scent and light blue crayons
• To make Rapunzel use lavender and bergamot scent and purple crayons
• To make Tiana use magnolia scent and lime green crayons
- Soy wax flakes
- Pre-waxed candle wicks
- Mason jars (or other containers for your candles)
- Chopsticks or pencils
- Non-toxic green and blue crayons (a third of a small green crayon and a half of a blue one)
- 10-15 drops coconut essential oil
- Glass container
- Tray (optional)
- Ribbon or lace
- Twist ties or string
Put your candle wicks in your jars, making sure the metal piece is flat against the bottom. Use two chopsticks or pencils to hold up the wicks, tying the ends together to keep everything in place. When you’re ready, put your jars on the tray and set aside.
Measure out the candle wax flakes (you’ll need twice the amount of flakes to fill the jar.) Next, half fill a saucepan with water. Chop the crayons into small pieces and add to the wax flakes so they melt with the wax. (Don’t worry if the colour looks very bright – it will turn a milky colour as it cools.)
Put your measured out wax flakes in the glass container and place the container in the saucepan. Make sure the water level is low enough not to splash into the wax flakes when it starts to boil. Heat on a medium setting, stirring occasionally with a metal spoon.
Once all the wax has completely melted, remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the coconut oil to the wax and stir well to mix it in. Next, slowly pour the melted wax mixture into your jars.
Allow 3-4 hours for your candles to cool and solidify. It’s best to let them solidify at room temperature, so the cooling process is gradual and the wax doesn’t crack.
Once your candles are dry, print and cut out your gift tag and attach to your jars.
